Dear San Carlos Owners & Guests,
The National Hurricane Center has made a significant shift to the east with
Marco’s track. Instead of coming ashore in Texas on Tuesday, Marco may make
landfall on Monday in central Louisiana as a hurricane. Marco is expected
to bring storm surge, heavy rainfall, and strong winds to parts of
Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama. Following Marco, Tropical Storm Laura
will strengthen into a hurricane and make landfall in Louisiana on late
Wednesday or early Thursday. Please note, however, that the National
Hurricane Center is still cautioning that more forecast and track changes
are still possible toward both storms. At this time, the National Hurricane
Center is forecasting Marco to be a Category 1 hurricane when it makes its
closest approach to Louisiana and Mississippi on Monday. Marco should then
weaken quickly through Tuesday due to land interaction and hostile winds in
the upper atmosphere.
Marco is expected to bring a surge of water from the Gulf of Mexico into
parts of the coastline from Louisiana eastward to coastal Alabama. Right
now, the highest surge from Marco is predicted to be from southeast
Louisiana to a portion of coastal Mississippi. Water levels could reach 4
to 6 feet above normal in these areas if the peak surge arrives at the time
of high tide.
Summary of updates:
* Marco is expected to strike the Louisiana Gulf Coast on Monday;
* Marco will be a strong tropical storm or a hurricane when it nears
Louisiana;
* Hurricane and storm surge warnings have been issued for a part of
the northern Gulf Coast;
* Storm surge flooding, localized flooding rainfall, and strong winds
are the expected impacts from Marco;
* Alabama remains under a tropical storm watch for the entire coast
from the Mississippi border to the Florida border.
I will continue to monitor both systems and update everyone as more
information becomes available. As mentioned in my previous posts, please
review the following to assure preparedness:
1. If you rent your unit, please contact your management company to
discuss procedure for removing all furniture and items off of your balcony
(especially end units due to the fact that items will need to be removed
even if the system doesn’t reach hurricane status);
2. San Carlos staff is always here to assist with moving your furniture
and balcony items into your unit (cost of $25 and does not include moving
items back out onto the balcony);
3. If this system advances into hurricane status, I will provide as
much notice as possible toward locking the building down, erecting our
hurricane shutter system, raising all elevators, and essentially making
absolutely certain we are adhering to every aspect of our hurricane
preparedness procedure in an effort to protect this building and each of
your units.
